About Cynthia A. Kaminsky

Cynthia Kaminsky is a Maryland-based photographer always looking for new spaces to explore.

A little on me:

I am a self-taught photographer who started photographing nature in 2007. Next, I was photographing trains, inspired by growing up next to railroad tracks. My love of the outdoor world mixed with the industrial nature of trains merged and I started to seek out dilapidated areas—bonus points if it included abandoned metal anything. By 2013, I was heavily involved with local community theatre and started salvaging worn out lighting gels to use as filters for my photos. Which brings us to today. I strive to photograph colorful items in what are otherwise average surroundings, hoping to give the viewer a sense of nostalgia.

Artist statement on abandoned spaces:

I have long been fascinated by the memory and passage of time. My work speaks directly to this desire to witness the past--not only the past as it was, but as it now slips away. In my work, prominent colors belie the decay beneath. I challenge the viewer to see past the ravages of time to the heyday of these forgotten spaces.
